Bodybuilding Supplements – 4 Inconvenient Truths

/ June 18th, 2011/ Posted in Other / No Comments »

In today’s society we are all looking for ways to get results as quickly and efficiently as possible in everything that we set out to do. One of the most common areas that people want improvements as quickly as possible is in the world of bodybuilding. While the allure of being able to take a pill or powder supplement to help you quickly pack on muscle and burn fat is a very powerful one indeed, the reality is that most bodybuilding supplements fall far short of living up to their promises.

There are 4 main truths about supplements that everyone should know when considering using supplements with their bodybuilding or fitness program:

1. Supplements are expensive
2. Supplements do not live up to their promises
3. Supplements are dangerous
4. Most Supplements are completely unnecessary

Supplements are Expensive

A monthly supply of a single supplement can run you anywhere from $20 all the way up to over $100 – and that is for just one supplement. I would venture to say that the average bodybuilding enthusiast is continually taking at least 3 or 4 supplements at any given time and is spending over $100 every month on supplements with the hopes that they are going to give them the edge they need to get ripped. Sadly, most of this is simply money wasted on supplements that promise one thing yet deliver another.

Supplements Do Not Live Up To Their Promises

Ads by supplement companies promise you the world in order to get you to buy their products. Their ads are always accompanied by pictures of some ripped out steroid users who have never actually used the products they are promoting. If the these “miracle drugs” actually worked every dude in the gym would be jacked! While there are a select few supplements that are worth using, you should never fall for the lie that any supplement, or stack of supplements, will finally be the secret to getting lean and muscular.

Supplements are Dangerous

New supplements hit the market everyday; most of which have only been tested for a matter of months before becoming available to the general public. While supplements may be mostly safe in terms of your short-term health, most supplements have not undergone adequate testing to determine if there may be any long term side effects from using them. Again, there are a select few supplements that have undergone sufficient testing to be deemed safe, but the majority of them do not fall into this category and should be avoided at all costs.

Most Supplements are Completely Unnecessary

Ever notice that on just about every set of before and after transformation photos used to advertise a product there is always a section of small print that explains that the results shown are not typical and that the subjects used their product in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise program? I am going to
let you in on a secret. Their diet and exercise was the reason they were able to transform their body – not the supplement! If you have been unable to significantly improve your physique, it is because your diet and training program is lacking; not because you aren’t taking the right supplements.

Stop risking your health, wasting your money and putting your hopes in the latest “revolutionary” pill or powder. There are a few supplements that are worth using, but if you are not training and eating with a purpose, you will never get a lean and muscular physique – period.
